Ein Beispiel von Kodierung in der Kunst zeigt das obige Portrait von Johann Sebastian Bach, das in hexagonalen Noten gemalt ist (Vorlage ist das Bild von E.G. Haußmann). Die Gruppe von vier dunklen Noten, die das Portrait umranden, werden als die musikalischen Noten b-a-c-h gelesen werden, so dass der Name Bach musikalisch kodiert ist. Es ist das bekannte Kreuzmotiv, das in vielen seiner Werke auftaucht.
