Rainer Maria Rilke war so beeindruckt von der Lichtwirkung dieser Statue, dass er ihr eines seiner bekanntesten Gedichte ‚Archaischer Torso des Apoll’ widmete. Er beschreibt das Glänzen der Statue in einer enthusiastischen Abfolge von Lichtmetaphern und beendet das Gedicht mit dem Satz: „Du musst dein Leben ändern“.
... You have to change your Life! The painting refers to the antique marble statue of Apollo exhibited in the Museum of the Vatican. The poet Rainer Maria Rilke was so impressed by the light radiation from the statue that he wrote one of his most famous poems ‘Apollo's Archaic Torso’. Rilke enthusiastically describes the light emerging from the statue and ends with the sentence “You have to change your life”.
